Alan Mayer was born in Brooklyn, NY in 1923. At age 11 he worked the fishing docks in Babylon, Long Island and at age 13 boxed as a semi-pro. In 1938 he moved to Chicago and is a U.S. Air Force veteran of World War II. For a span of over 30 years he owned
15 companies. He was a banker for another 30 years and an active scupltor for 20 years. After doing all that, Alan is still restless and looking for a new career. Alan Mayer, at age 91, published his first novel, “The Fix,” a story about boxing. Part fact – part fiction.
At age 92 he published his book of short stories, “Sitting Duck,” tales of events that occurred during his 92 years on this planet. “I’m 93. Why am I Still Alive?” is Alan’s third book. Asking when life should be over, it’s a compilation of true mishaps and health situations that should have or could have shortened his life, but for reasons unknown, did not.
